Ras Al Khaimah
Ras Al Khaimah’s name refers to the bedouin shelter symbolizing traditional Arab friendship and
hospitality. This Emirate is one of the most natural beauty spots in the region. surrounded by sea,
tranquil lagoons, desert and mountains, it is known for its camping grounds and spectacular walking
trails. The city of ras Al Khaimah, the capital of the emirate, is divided into two parts by a water gill
named Khour ras Al Khaimah. The mangroves that flourish in and around ras Al Khaimah city are
an added attraction. These mangroves run northwards along the coast in sheltered inlets and teem
with birds and sea life.
It lies at the foot of the Hajar mountains, bordering the sultanate of oman. Attractions include an
interesting museum, an atmospheric old town, souk and fishing port, and the best camel racing in
the country. The Khatt springs are nearby where the naturally heated waters are believed to have
healing properties. Arabian Explorers can also organize themed or group events including beach based
and sporting activities.
Golfing is an added attraction, the Tower links 18-hole golf course provides challenges for all
standards of play. Camel racing, four-wheel driving and trekking are just some of the activities on
offer in ras Al Khaimah.
Nestled in the lee of the mountains in the north, shamal has several tombs whose historical
background dates back to about 4,500 years. The modern village of shamal houses the palace of
the Queen of sheba.
